UMi DIGI has finally put the UMi Touch and UMi Rome X for sale. The sales have begun in the flash deal format on various online marketplaces.
So what’s all the hype about?
- Design: The UMi smartphones are tastefully designed to match the aesthetics of a great smartphone. Each element and detail is well thought-out and useful. Its curvy shape makes holding it with one hand very comfortable and the aluminum case guarantees higher safety and general robustness of the body, which is useful if it happens to get dropped. Its eye-catching appearance gives it an expensive and stylish look, though its price is moderate compared with its well-known counterparts. The UMi company has done its best to introduce a main trend for all modern smartphones, including new iPhones, and the Touch features 2.5D rounded glass edges.
- OS/Firmware: Each UMi smartphone are sold with a clean Android OS, with no bloatware or launcher interfaces (e.g. HTC Sense, Samsung TouchWiz, etc.). So, when you buy a UMi you don’t have to learn to deal with a peculiar UI or find ways to get around it. What makes power users happy is that UMi devices support Rootjoy, which makes it possible to get quick firmware updates like MIUI, Flyme, VIBE UI or even Windows Phone 8 with just a few clicks.

The UMi Touch is a flagship offering from UMi. Its main attraction is its iPhone 6S-esque metal body and a highly-precise fingerprint scanner. The scanner is capable of recognizing fingerprints in a tenth of a second with maximum accuracy. The scanner can quickly unlock the device and protect access to certain programs.
For example, you could set the fingerprint reader to open banking or note apps that are normally restricted with passwords. Another important feature is that the scanner is embedded into a mechanical home button below the screen, which can be woken up by pressing or just touching it, thanks to its sensor layer. To sum it up, the home button works in three ways: mechanical pressing, sensor touching and fingerprint scanning.
The device has a 64-bit Mediatek MT6753 Octa-Core chipset, a Mali-T720 graphics chip, 3/16 GB memory, a micro SD card slot, LTE support, a 5.5-inch 1,080p display and a 4,000 mAh battery. The UMi Touch also has a 13 MP camera with a quality Sony Exmor R IMX328 sensor. Its front camera is a 5 MP Hynix Hi553 and has a flash for better video calling and selfies.
The UMi Rome X on the other hand is the most affordable full metal 3G smartphone available. As an entry-level phone, it hits all the sweet spots. It features a 5.5″ 720p 2.5 D arc glass screen, a 1.3GHz MTK6580 Quad Core processor, Mali-400MP GPU and comes with Android 5.1 preloaded.
The 13 MP primary camera has a SONY IMX179 sensor while the front camera is 2 MP. It has all the other goodies like dual-band WiFi-n, Bluetooth 4.1 and dual SIM support.
